Dear beginner/martial artist/karate-ka,

Welcome to the Shuri Dojo Practical Karate and Applied Combative Methods website. I hope you find your visit informative and interesting enough for you to return.

With over 50 years of dedicated practice in traditional karate, we bring a wealth of experience and insight to the realm of combat training.

We believe in the power of evolution. We honor the rich heritage and discipline of traditional karate while embracing the need for pragmatic and effective combative methods in today's world. Our approach is not bound by rigid dogma but instead adapts and evolves to meet the challenges of modern combat.

Drawing from the timeless principles of Okinawan karate, we integrate a range of techniques and strategies tailored for real-world effectiveness. Our training methodology emphasizes adaptability, enabling practitioners to respond confidently to different situations they may encounter.

There is much more to karate than mere sport, fighting or competition. Karate is a life long study, ultimately learning and testing yourself, through the rigors of constant training, challenge, success and failures. Whether this is your ultimate aim of studying karate, is of course personal choice, karate can be many things to many people.

Through this website I hope you are able to find the information you are looking for.

If you require any further information please contact me...... And remember, to keep upto date on what's happening at the Shuri Dojo follow us on our social media channels below.

Thank you.

Please Note:

We do not accept all applications for membership. Our dojo follows the older Okinawan tradition of training from a small home based dojo. We have a selective student intake on a periodic basis. Traditional training is typically limited to small, dedicated groups of students, who are seeking to achieve a high level of disciplined, skills and values. Therefore preserving the culture and foundation of our art.

Note for experienced martial artists: This is a private dojo that is not open to visitors without first gaining permission to train. The dojo exists to take beginners from white belt onwards. It does not cater to experienced martial artists looking for one-off training or transferring from another style.
